Therapy support for rheumatic patients
In 2015, the association of patients with rheumatic diseases of the Republic of Serbia (Udruženje obolelih od reumatskih bolesti Republike Srbije, ORS), started a project for patient support named Helper in association with the Institute for Rheumatology in Belgrade. Since its beginning in Belgrade, this project has expanded throughout Serbia, and is currently operating in following centers:
- Institute for Rheumatology, Belgrade
- Special hospital for rheumatic diseases Jodna Banja, Novi Sad
- University Clinical Center of Vojvodina, Novi Sad
- University Clinical Center, Kragujevac
- Institute Niska Banja, Nis
The project provides personal information, guidance and support to patients during their biological treatment.
The helpers provide information and education about the disease and treatment options. They consult with local healthcare professionals and inform the participating patients. They act as an intermediary between patients and healthcare professionals, promoting a healthy lifestyle and providing support to patients and their families.
The project offers the participating patients valuable personal support in dealing with the disease. Questions can be answered quickly because the helpers are available as personal contact persons and can be reached easily by phone or email. This prevents patients from feeling left alone.
An important aim of the project is to ensure that patients adhere to their treatment since compliance is key to treatment success.
